For in-force policies where monthly payments are up to date:
Yes, you and your loved ones are covered. Should you and/or your loved ones be
impacted by this virus, Metropolitan will pay the claim within 24 hours. All terms and
conditions of your funeral contract remain unchanged. As per these terms and
conditions, Metropolitan, similar to other funeral cover providers, will require the
waiting period to have passed as per the plan summary. Should you still be in the
waiting period, this will unfortunately result in the claim not being paid. The waiting
period depends on the cover you have selected. For more information, please refer to
your plan summary to see who are covered on your plan, and to the User Guide and
Contract for any contractual agreements or information.
We encourage you to maintain your cover by continuing to pay your monthly payments. You and your family need to be covered during these uncertain times.
For lapsed plans:
If your funeral plan has lapsed because you were unable to pay, it unfortunately means
that the plan is no longer active and the lives on the plan are not covered. Fortunately, Metropolitan allows you to reinstate your plan if it has lapsed within the past three months, in other words, your
plan can continue as usual if you meet certain criteria. You can then choose to pay the
premiums you have missed before your plan has lapsed. Note that only the original
waiting period will apply if it has not expired. If you are unable to pay the missed premiums
before your plan lapsed, we will implement a new waiting period for all the lives
insured.
